Description

If you have read the post on Agarwood? Aloeswood? How much do you know of it? you would understand that agarwood is a valuable antiquity. Wild agarwood is definitely valuable. Global Statistics have shown that the world has less that 2% of wild agarwood in the wild today. Hunters would often spend 1 month in the forests but return with a few hundred grams of low grade young agarwood, sometimes nothing. The rewards to venture and hunt in forests have become so low that no one would want to risk the dangers of camping in the dangerous rainforests. Regardless of the grade, wild agarwood are definitely expensive. “Diamond of Woods”, as the title suggests, agarwood is the most precious wood in the world. Did you know? Wild agarwood has steadily appreciated from a range of 5% to 30% on an annual basis. The extent of appreciation depends on the origin of the aloeswood and its grade. ------------------------------- **How Valuable is Wild Agarwood then? (1) Auction Houses, the benchmark for price setting Agarwood has consistently outperformed many other antiquities for its steady appreciation and growing demand. It is a hot favourite in established auction houses in China, Hong Kong, Japan and even global auction house like Christie’s. ------------------------------- (2) Museums, the legacy of cultural heritage In the Beijing and Taiwan (ROC) national palace museum, they have exhibits on Qing dynasty agarwood that was used by the imperial families. Agarwood has been an integral part of Royal commodity for thousands of years. In Japan, the imperial family still keeps the first piece of agarwood that arrived in Japan, ōjukukō (Ranjatai) in Tōdai-ji Temple, Nara. ------------------------------- (3) Collectors, the symbol of status Jack Ma and Jet Li are some of the famous collectors in the Chinese agarwood community. With the rising economic power of China, Chinese collectors are increasingly purchasing collectible grade agarwood in antique and auction houses worldwide. To the Chinese, agarwood is a form of investment like Jade, Gold and Silver. They often burn agarwood to welcome business partners over a cup of tea. (Similar to how the Arabs would burn agarwood to welcome important guests to their homes.) The wealthy and elite Chinese loves put on agarwood accessories to display their wealth and status.
